THIS York Labour council makes my blood boil. It says it has no money to help elderly people in care homes, but expects the citizens of York to "fork out" towards the cost of free passes on the park and ride for council workers.
When will the council learn to get its priorities in order?
If councillors took a substantial cut in the expenses they claim, they could fund the passes for the council workers themselves.
What do they think to that for a suggestion?
Then they could give something themselves instead of taking all the time. After all councillors used to give their time free in days gone by.
Mrs J M Scruton
Palmes Close,
York.
...WITH reference to free park and ride for council staff (February 20), it is to be hoped that the Inland Revenue look upon the perks favourably.
When I was employed by British Rail, free passes were taxed whether the facility was used or not, as also was my Three Monthly Privilege Season Ticket, on London Underground.
This taxation, I felt, was totally wrong and I wrote to many people in authority (except the Pope), to no avail.
R K Edwards,
Barley Rise,
York.
