POCKLINGTON Runners' Snake Lane 10-mile road race was won by Morpeth's Rob Halladay, but York-area competitors picked up plenty of prizes.
Halladay and his nearest challenger Ian Malone (Ackworth) ran at just over five-minute-mile pace to finish just three seconds apart, Halladay crossing the line in 52 minutes four seconds.
Hull's Jo Kelsey was a clear winner of the women's race, finishing 27th overall in 58-03 ahead of Chaanan Patton (Hallamshire) 59-23 with Liz Proctor (Courtneys Gym) third in 1-09-59.
Nearly 700 runners took part over a course which took in Meltonby and Bishop Wilton before finishing in Pocklington Market Place.
Knavesmire Harriers finished second behind Kingston upon Hull in the men's team race which attracted a 78-club field. Beverley AC were third, a point behind Knavesmire.
The first three Harriers home were Ian Anderson, David Chippett and Andy Booth. Together with York Acorn's Colin Hawxby, they were the only York runners to beat the hour mark.
However, Knavesmire's Mike McGrath clocked an excellent 1-01-38 to take fifth place in the Over-50 section, knocking over two minutes off his previous best time.
The first York woman home was Dawn Gibbs (York Acorn) who clocked 1-04-46 to be the seventh woman runner home and the first Over-45 finisher. Knavesmire duo Amanda Clarke (1-08-29) and Robyn Oldham (1-09-03) finished ninth and tenth in the ladies open category.
York Acorn's women's team were fifth with Julie 1-13-52 and heather McIntosh 1-14-09 supporting Gibbs.
Meanwhile, York Postal AC Running Club has undergone a few changes.
It was changed its name to York Postal Harriers, has a new team vest and a new chairman in Ian Dalton, a long-time member of the club with 40 years Royal Mail service.
Although the club has always catered for road runners, this year they are taking some fell running events.
Five of their runners tackled the Snake Lane 10 and two more were in action at the annual Ilkley Moor Fell Race.
York Postal Harriers meet for a training run on Wednesday evenings at 7pm at the Minster Inn, Marygate. Anyone interested in joining should just turn up. Non-postal staff are also welcome.
- York Acorn's Gerry Orchard was fourth in 3-53-00 in the Rombalds Stride long-distance challenge around Ilkley Moor. Club-mate John Tattersall clocked 4-16-00 for 85th place and Julie Bushell 4-38-00 for 121st.
