STAND-OFF Jonny Liddell and skipper Peter Edwards both moved to within one point of leader Mark Cain at the top of the Guildford Construc-tion/Evening Press player-of-the-year rankings this week.

Liddell pipped Edwards to the man-of-the-match award in last week's loss to Hunslet and in doing so became the first player to pick up a hat-trick of accolades this season, pipping the Kiwi to that mark too.

Liddell created and scored York's only try and generally did well, while Edwards, who never lets the side down, continually cajoled and tried to inspire his team-mates and was thus awarded two player-of-the-season points.

Carl Hall was awarded the remaining point to keep him in touch with the leaders. The centre might have got sucked out of the line for Hunslet's first try, but he was again the Wasps' most prominent figure in attack.

The Wasps' man of the match in each game receives three points, the second best player two points and the third best one point. Whoever tops the table at the end of the season will receive £350 courtesy of Guildford Construction, with the runner-up winning £150.

Player of the Year standings: Mark Cain 10pts, Jon Liddell 9, Peter Edwards 9, Carl Hall 7, Mick Docherty 6, Steve Hill 4, Jamie Benn 4, Michael Forbes 3, Ben Sorbello 3, Scott Yeaman 3, Andy Precious 1, Shaun Austerfield 1.

FOR those of you not aware, the Evening Press' award-winning website has launched a brand new internet forum for sports fans.

Supporters of the Wasps in particular are welcome to air their views, discuss the club's fortunes, or simply let off steam.

The forum is open not just for the Wasps or rugby league in general, but for all sports-related topics. However, we are especially keen for all Wasps fans to get involved with views, news, comments and conferences.

All views are welcome - although obscene and rascist comments are obviously not.

To access the forum - to read other people's thoughts and/or to submit your own point of view - simply log on to the www.thisisyork.co.uk homepage and follow the link to the sports forum.

You will be asked for a login name, password, your name, address, telephone and email address to gain access to the message board. No fee is involved.
