A MAN died today after a car he was apparently driving left the road and ended up in a ditch.
The accident happened near the village of Whixley, between York and Knaresborough, some time around 7am, on the road leading from the village to the A59 road between York and Harrogate.
The man, believed to be in his twenties, was trapped in the car after the accident.
Paramedics rushed to the scene and tried to resuscitate the man, but he was pronounced dead by a doctor.
Conditions on North Yorkshire roads were icy this morning, but a county police spokesman said it was not yet known if the weather contributed to the crash.
He said: "The dead man appears to be the driver."
An ambulance spokeswoman added: "He was trapped initially. We sent an ambulance and a rapid response team to the scene."
