HAVING been born and brought up in York I am familiar with the flooding problems.
My mother, who is over 90 and still lives in the city, has often told me of how the river was dredged until after the Second World War.
Why was it was discontinued? Logic suggests that a river that receives the amount of debris from all its tributaries the Ouse does would need to have this removed and put on farmland some distance from the riverside.
This is certainly done to the little river near my village in the south.
