Injuries and players not being available forced York RI to make four late changes to the team for their Yorkshire Two match at Dinnington, which RI lost 46-11.
RI failed to come to terms with the home team's powerful mobile pack.
Playing with the strong breeze in the first half, RI soon found themselves in arrears, when first Pilkington and Mark Pinder scored from good forward drives.
Matthew Yates reduced the arrears with two penalties as RI fought to get themselves back into the game.
However, two tries by hooker Esberger, both converted by Lax, gave Dinnington a 24-6 half-time lead that was sure to be extended with the breeze in the second half.
RI started the second half by putting pressure on Dinnington's line with strong runs from Barley, Armstrong and Alexander, but they could not turn the pressure into points.
Two tries by winger Davidson and one by full back Straw saw Dinnington past the 40 points mark before Alexander replied with a late try for RI.
