KIRKBYMOORSIDE Golf Club swept to a double success to put them comfortably in front at the half-way stage of the York Union of Golf Club's Cross Trophy competition.
Pairings from Kirkby won events number five and six to take the club's overall points tally to 1,170 ahead of second-placed Malton and Norton on 1,81. There are six more competitions to go at Forest of Galtres, Easingwold, The York, Fulford, Heworth and Forest Park.
The Cross Trophy number five tournament was held at Kirkbymoorside, where home knowledge came to the fore for Neil Williamson (nine handicap) and Richard Pickering (14).
They finished with a score of 63 in the four-ball betterball medal format winning on count-back from the respective Fulford and Forest of Galtres duos of Steve Dunn (3) and Ian Simpson (2), and Brian Griffin (12) and Dave Edmondson (11).
Kirkbymoorside's success in the Cross Trophy number six competition at Malton and Norton GC was far more emphatic.
The pairing of Roy Brown (9) and Paul Horsley (14) romped to victory. Their score of 60 was six better than their closest rivals.
