COUNCIL workers were called to clear a fallen tree from a main road in Haxby today as strong winds buffeted the area.
Police said a large tree came crashing down in Station Road, Haxby, at about 5.45am knocking down a telegraph pole and narrowly missing the local library.
The tree, which came down near to the junction with Hall Rise, hit the roof of house and damaged some tiles.
Forecasters say the winds will continue to be the same tonight, but should calm down by tomorrow afternoon.
