Heworth Golf Club have closed the gap in the East Riding Alliance Championship to four strokes after victory in the latest round at Selby.
The team of Neil Smith and Dean Wharton kept their composure to fire a six-under 65 to leave Heworth within striking distance of reigning champions Filey with two rounds to play.
Professional Smith and Wharton (hcp 14) held off the challenge of Fulford and Pike Hills to win by one shot in very blustery conditions.
While Heworth were celebrating the win, Malton and Norton professional Steve Robinson gave his club plenty to shout about with a hole-in-one at the par four 13th.
Robinson, partnering team-mate Brian Jacques, drove the ball 300 yard from the tee into the hole for an albatross.
Leading positions (after eight rounds): 1, Filey 1073; 2, Heworth 1077; 3=, Beverley and East Riding 1081; 3=, Brough 1081; 5, Malton and Norton 1084; 6, Kirkbymoorside 1086; 7, Hessle 1087.
