YORK RI 'A' crushed Huddersfield 'A' by 9 to points in the Woodhouse Cup.

York fielded a strong team and the win was expected but York RI 'A' have seriously underachieved this season and so it was reassuring to secure a big win. Among the players who won were David Adams, Norman Stephenson, David Wise, Barry Marshall, Jon Griffith, Paul Hopwood, Steve Huxley and Paul Johnson and the draw was from Tony Slinger on board four.

York RI 'B' team are still chasing promotion from the IM Brown to the Woodhouse Cup and beat Harrogate 'B' by 6 to 1 points in their last match.

They are second in the table with two games remaining. It is unlikely that they will catch the leaders, Sheffield 'B', but maintaining second place is a reality and with it the chance of promotion.

Last Saturday's victory was

achieved with wins from Eric Key, Tim Turner, John Clark, Richard Mounce, Herbert Lockwood and draws from Patrick Gower, Norman Andrews and Steve

Webster.

York RI 'C' struggled to overcome Harrogate 'C' despite out-grading them.

With the scores tied at 3-3 David Findlay was the star when he won the last game to finish to give York the narrowest of victories.

Earlier York had been given the best possible start when Richard Allis was given a default win on board eight and this was followed with another win from Sri

Sriharan and draws from Eric Winn, Neville Pearce and John Lafferty.

York RI 'D' faced a relegation battle away to Hull 'B' and unfortunately lost by 6 to 1 points. York gave a good account of themselves but ultimately the stronger team won. The highlight of the York performance was Aaron Barker's win while Bill Fulton drew.

In the Evening League, Lady Ann Margaret 1 comfortably defeated Danger Squares to retain the Plate. Jon Griffith, Neville Pearce and Lee Wilson all won both their games whilst Tim Turner scored a win and draw against Bill Fulton and Toby Coyners-Kelly and Sri Sriharan won a game each.

For Danger Squares Aaron

Barker, surprisingly playing as low as board six won both his games.

University defeated Shepherds 1 4-2 in the first semi-final of the LTKO with wins from Matthew Palmer and Martin Cook.

The remaining four games between Almas Ermekov and Barry Marshall, Mark Kambites and Eric Key, Karl Moxley and Kan Filtz and Richard Mounce and Keith Goodey were all drawn.

University will play Cavaliers 'A' in the final after they defeated Minster Inn 4-2.

Minster's Paul O'Neill and Mark White won the top two boards but Cavaliers won the bottom four courtesy of Steve Huxley, Richard Hardy, Peter Cloudsdale and Owen Robson.

Paul Hopwood's win against LAM1 was in two-and-a-half minutes and not as reported last week.
