HARROGATE diver Emma Teather hopes to plunge headlong into a place in the Commonwealth Games in Manchester.
The 17-year-old Harrogate Ladies College student has been selected for the eight-strong Great Britain Under-18 springboard diving team for a Six Nations Event against France, Germany, Italy, Sweden and Holland in Amsterdam next month.
She qualified by doing well in a competition in Plymouth last month by diving from one-metre and three-metre boards.
There will be a series of Commonwealth trials over the next few months and already has given the selectors a glimpse of her form when she reached the tough qualifying standard on the three-metre board at the Winter National Championships in Manchester.
She will now travel with the senior British team to Germany for the next selection meeting.
Despite training up to three hours a day, five days a week, in Harrogate and Leeds, Teather achieved nine GCSE's last summer and is now studying for five A/S levels.
Harrogate Ladies' College headmistress, Dr Margaret Hustler, said: "We are all delighted for Emma. She has been winning diving trophies since the age of seven and has still managed to achieve excellent results in her examinations.
"Everyone at Harrogate Ladies College will be cheering her on when she next represents Great Britain."
