YORK beat Wakefield 4-2 in their Yorkshire Inter City Snooker League division three match at the Cue Ball Club in York.
Kevin Gall won his first frame against Wakefield opponent Brian Woodcock by the seat of his pants. After a gritty frame Woodcock needed black to win. He potted it from an acute angle into the middle pocket but the cue ball followed it in. The second frame was another long struggle with Woodcock potting pink to win a low scoring frame.
York's Tim Hart, however, rattled off two frames in under 40 minutes against Ian Bennett. A succession of 20 and 30 breaks with a highest of 44 gave York a strong 3-1 advantage.
Kevin Hopper raced to a 75-7 lead with a 40 break to strengthen York's position. Steve Slater played on with one red remaining and conceded once he had scored a total of 20 points.
In the second frame Hopper had a 42-point advantage but blew chance after chance to finish Slater off and the Wakefield man scrambled over the line to win by potting a difficult black down the cushion.
