A WOMAN from Selby has died in hospital after being seriously injured in a crash between a car and the van she was travelling in.
The elderly woman, who has not been named but was said to be from the Selby area, died in Leeds General Infirmary yesterday afternoon after she was airlifted to the hospital from the scene of the crash on the A645 at Kellingley, near Knottingley.
Police said a red Volkswagen Golf cabriolet car heading from Knottingley appeared to have lost control on a left-hand bend and collided with a Vauxhall Commer van travelling in the opposite direction, near to the junction with Sudforth Lane. The Volkswagen driver, a man in his twenties from the Selby area, suffered serious injuries, as did the van driver, an elderly man also from the Selby area. Both were taken to Pontefract General Infirmary. The injured woman was taken to Leeds by air ambulance but later died from her injuries. The three had been trapped in their vehicles and had to be freed by fire crews.
