Acomb survived the loss of a player to beat Leeds 2-1 and stay in third place, one above their vanquished rivals.
Acomb started well with Nick Linfoot and Jamie Robinson causing the Leeds defence problems.
Acomb took the lead from a quick break, Robinson's shot too powerful for the Leeds 'keeper to save.
They continued to chip out good chances and from a well-taken short corner routine Stuart Baxter flicked the ball home for a two-goal cushion.
Acomb worked hard to keep the lead and Dave Bell and the entire defence admirably coped with any Leeds' breaks.
Midway through the second half Acomb were reduced to ten men and had to work even harder. Pressure finally told as Leeds scored a late goal but Acomb
displayed stern resolve to hold on for a hard-fought win.
Acomb Ladies II, currently second in division six, visited York University, a further place below, and experienced their hardest match so far this season as they were beaten 2-1.
Against a supremely fit side, Acomb played some of their best hockey of the season, with a tight defence and midfield.
During the first half York University were awarded a penalty flick which was saved by captain and goalkeeper Melanie Bell, who was awarded man of the match.
Unfortunately, within ten minutes of the second half the hosts breached the Acomb defence twice before Acomb plundered a consolation reply a minute before time.
