STALWART Calendar anchorman Mike Morris is to leave Yorkshire Television, a spokesman confirmed today.
Company executives deny sacking the 54-year-old former TV-AM presenter, claiming he has decided to step down.
In a statement, YTV said he would leave in the spring, but a replacement had yet to be appointed.
The announcement comes against a background of plunging ratings for Calendar, following the defection of Christa Ackroyd, Mr Morris's former co-presenter, to the BBC's Look North programme.
For the first time in years, Look North is consistently beating Calendar.
A Calendar spokesman said: "Mike has done a tremendous since he joined in January, 1996. He will be missed by his colleagues and viewers for both his sheer professionalism and sense of humour."
