HORSE owners have been warned of the incidence of strangles in several parts on the country, including a case at Selby and three in South Yorkshire.
The alert concerning this highly infectious and contagious disease comes from the British Horse Society which says the disease is "more prevalent and serious than many horse owners appreciate".
The BHS advises that all new horses entering a yard should be monitored closely for at least two weeks. Any horses that develop a nasal discharge should be segregated and swabbed for the presence of S Equi.
