CITY of York Ladies were good value for their North League point after taking the lead three times in a 4-4 draw at high-flying Timperley.

The game came to life after a goalless first-half when Sally Sleightholme took advantage of good work by Sally Powell to score for York soon after the interval, only for Timperley to equalise straight from the restart.

Powell, who had an excellent game, then set up a second goal for Sleightholme before Timperley levelled again from a penalty stroke and then took a 3-2 lead following a York infringement.

York stormed back and were unlucky when Kate Rorrison hit a post with a fine shot but she was soon on target, scoring with another cracking effort.

The Powell - Sleightholme striking combination then gave York a 4-3 lead, Powell running half the length of the field to provide Sleightholme with a simple task of scoring to complete her hat-trick.

But, Timperley equalised yet again and York were relieved when the home side's last-gasp penalty corner strike was disallowed.

In division six of the Yorkshire League, City of York III lost 2-0 at Salendine Nook, while in division seven, a young City of York IV had a good 2-1 win against a more senior Leeds III, with Jas Radcliffe and Eleanor Grummitt scoring the goals.

Acomb Ladies ended a run of four successive draws as they beat newly-promoted Boston Spa 4-1.

Spa were just above Acomb in the table before the game, but they could find no way past a dominant display from the visitors.

Kerry Rafton fired Acomb into the lead after Vicky Burden's pass, but Spa responded well with Kirsty Cooper having to be at her best to keep the lead in tack.

The second half saw Anne Hagyard increase this lead, only for a deflected effort to bring Boston right back in the match.

But the in-form Rafton ended Boston's hopes of a fightback as she made it 3-1.

Player-of-the-match Cooper still had to be alert to keep out the Boston attackers, but Hagyard was on hand to finish off the win after great play by Sally Banks.

A superb display saw Tadcaster Ladies romp to a 4-0 victory over Leeds Owls.

Sarah Pedder gave Taddy the lead at half-time, while in the second half Julie Hooley struck two magnificent goals.

Just before the final whistle Jenny Taylor pounced to seal a fantastic victory to make it 14 goals in two games for the ladies.
