Heworth 'A' completed the double over Bootham 'A' with a hard fought 4-3 win in the York Conservative Clubs' Carlsberg-Tetley Snooker League which continued their unbeaten run.
Ken Taylor took the first frame for Bootham by sinking the final pink and black to inflict the first defeat of the season on Clive Whyte. Dave Taylor levelled the match with the second frame but John Darley put Bootham 2-1 up, also by securing the final pink and black.
Heworth then went ahead 3-2 with wins by Keith Lawrence and Jason Milner. John Anderson completed the win by clearing green to pink and Barry Rankin snatched the last frame for Bootham, again on the last two balls. Heworth head the league by nine points but this defeat pushes Bootham 'A' down to joint-third.
Acomb 'A' moved into second spot with a 5-2 success against Fulford 'A'. Paul Clark, Ian Gillies and Marcus O'Boyle put them 3-0 up before Phil Oliver put Fulford on the scoreboard. Mick Frampton and Gerald Mackenzie made it five for Acomb and Richard Stroughair made it two for Fulford with a black ball win in a match which had four other such finishes.
Bootham 'B' move to joint-third with a 5-2 victory over Acomb 'B'. Jeff Brown, Tim Fillingham, Chris Granger, George Long and Ray Stamp won for Bootham with replies from Ken Bowser and Steve Rodgers. This defeat pushes Acomb 'B' bottom.
Fulford 'B' went 2-0 in front with wins by Ray Thackway and George Toone only for Heworth 'B' to take the next four frames through Alf Appleby, John Blanchard, Huw Faircliffe and Colin Richardson. Bernard Appleton made the score 4-3 by winning the last frame for Fulford.
Three players are now joint leaders in the Willsden Steel Player Of The Year competition, namely Jason Milner (H), George Toone (F) and Clive Whyte (H). All have played nine games and lost just once.
Clive Whyte (H) still leads with a 58 break in the North Wolds Printers Highest Break Competition. Neil Wood (H) is in second with 53 and 52 breaks.
Leaders Acomb completed their third win over Fulford this season in the York Conservative Clubs' Slater Cup Snooker Pairs League with a decisive 5-2 scoreline. They won the first three frames to go 131 points ahead on aggregate and although Fulford took the next two, Acomb rallied to secure the last frame and the aggregate by 110 points.
Bootham also won 5-2 against Heworth to remain level with Acomb on 30 points but have one win less. Bootham won four of the first five frames and although Heworth managed to take the last with a black ball result, Bootham gained the aggregate by 103 points. Heworth continue in third, a further eight points behind, and Fulford are anchored in bottom.
Bottom-placed Fulford surprised York Conservative Clubs' Faber Shield Billiards League leaders Acomb by recording their first win and the first defeat this season for Acomb. Brian Bickerstaff, Roger Gibson, Colin Neal, Alan Reed and Richard Stroughair (41 break) won for Fulford and Bob Ventress for Acomb to give Fulford a 6-1 victory.
Bootham 'A' reduced Acomb's lead to seven points with a 5-2 victory against their 'B' team. The 'A' teams winners were Peter Mills (37 unfinished break), Don Pringle, Colin Robinson and Ken Taylor (45 and 32 breaks) against replies by Tom Bamford and Tim Fillingham. Bootham 'B' continue in third place a further 12 points adrift and just one point clear of bottom-placed Fulford.
