ANCIENT and fictional battles were recreated over the weekend when York Wargames Society held its annual open day at the Merchant Adventurers' Hall.
On display were battles from the time of the Roman Empire and the Second World War, as well as a demonstration war game based on the Lord Of The Rings.
Hundreds of war-gaming fans turned out yesterday, to check out the latest products in the first show of the new season.
Trader Mike Brooks, who runs the York branch, said: "The York branch has been going for 26 years and we have held open days in the Merchant Adventurers for 13 years.
"Whatever your field of interest, there is always something on show for all tastes."
- People interested in getting involved should turn up at one of the club's meetings at Guppy's Club, in Nunnery Lane, York, at 7pm on Mondays and Thursdays, or 8pm on Wednesdays.
