Stephen Lewis's interview with York's Leisure chief Alan Jones (January 29) was interesting. Just what leisure is he the chief of?
When I want a game of bowls at Clarence Gardens, I and my fellow bowlers have to set the rinks up ourselves because the council no longer provides attendants.
When my grandsons want to play football or cricket they have to join a private club because the council no longer provides the amenities. They are unable to go swimming now from school because of lack of interest from the council.
Thomas Hobbes wrote that leisure is the mother of philosophy.
Philosophy is the study of basic truths and the truth is Alan Jones is the executive chief of nothing.
