A TEENAGER was injured by a bus after running out into slow-moving traffic today, police said.
The youth, thought to be aged 17, was in collision with a single-deck First bus as it travelled along Foss Islands Road towards Monkgate.
The accident happened opposite Mansfield Street at about 11am.
The youth was taken to York District Hospital by ambulance, but his injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.
Witness John Wood, who lives in York and was driving in the opposite direction, said: "There were quite a few vehicles parked.
"He wouldn't have seen anything, he just seemed to run straight out fairly quickly into the path of the bus.
"The bus wasn't going fast or anything and then there was this crack.
"The boy said he was 17, he had a cut on his chin and he said his ribs were aching.
"He could move, though, and we lifted him on to the stretcher."
Sgt Nigel Thompson said: "It appears as though a pedestrian has run out in front of a bus which was moving along in traffic.
"We don't think it is life-threatening.
"The driver is shaken but uninjured. There were passengers on the bus and we have a number of independent witnesses."
If anyone has any information they should contact York police on 01904 631321.
