JOSEPH Rowntree School's Under 14 and U16 teams had a disappointing day in the regional round of the National Schools Netball Tournament at Wolfreton School, Hull.

Both teams were fourth in the Yorkshire and Humberside event and so missed out on the national finals for the first time in 11 years.

Team play and shooting were inconsistent, but there were times when players excelled.

Under 16 results were: v Bradford Grammar lost 9-6, v Wickersley lost 15-10, v Stokesley lost 8-4, v Beverley won 8-3, v Silverlane won 11-5, v Malet Lambert won 11-3.

Under 14 results: v Bradford lost 11-8, v Sheffield lost 15-2, v Woodhouse Grove lost 9-7, v Harrogate Grammar drew 3-3, v Hall Cross won 9-3; v South Hunsley won 7-4, v Malet Lambert won 10-3.

Under 16 Squad: Daniella Colquhoun, Natalie Wadsworth, Emily Fowler, Charlene Woodwood, Nicola Bailey, Jenni Bailey, Lorraine Waudby, Michelle McQuade.

Under 14 Squad: Stephanie Lauff, Melanie Ward, Kathryn Ward, Katie Aldous, Helen Jamieson, Jenna Garnett, Edith Bourne, Cheryl Fairclough, Rosie Wright.

SWIMMING

Pocklington School pupil Will Peek-Vout has been selected to represent York City Baths Club in the Scottish National Swimming Long Course Championships.

He has been chosen to swim in Glasgow on March 2 and 3 in the 200 metres backstroke, 200m and 400m freestyle and 200m individual medley.

FOOTBALL

Last Saturday, the York Under 11 City Boys played in a seven-a-side competition in Scarborough.

They turned out two teams with mixed results.

The York 'A' team lost 3-0 but the 'B' team won 3-1 with goals from Danny Tuite, Rob Whitehead and Tom Corner.

The City Boys U11s' next game is a week on Saturday, February 9

BASKETBALL

This weekend All Saints School Under 15 basketball team will be competing in the National Basketball finals at Ellesmere Port, Cheshire.
