MICK Wilcockson, champion four years ago, has been made top seed to regain the men's singles title at the York and District Table Tennis Association Closed Championships this weekend.
Last year's winner John Farmery is seeded at number two, with Poppleton's England-ranked Under 15 star Richard Moss the number three seed.
The seedings for the championships, which are being played at York RI gymnasium, Queen Street, on Saturday and Sunday, were made last Friday night be the competitions committee.
Wilcockson plays for York League champions Sessions and has National League experience with the Selby-based Derwent club. He is also seeded number one in the men's doubles (with Moss), the mixed doubles (with Jill Schofield), the veterans' singles and the hardbat singles.
Fulford Road WMC player Farmery beat RI's Brian Quinn in last year's men's singles final. He reached five finals in all, winning three including the mixed and veterans' doubles. He and Adele Lobley, who won the mixed doubles last year, are second seeds this year.
Farmery, who won the veterans' doubles with Ian Stansfield last year, has a new partner this time in John Hughes and they are top seeds for the title.
Jill Schofield (Nestl Rowntree) is top seed to retain the women's singles title she won last year for the first time. Jeannette Eastwood (Fulford Road WMC) is seeded number two.
Farmery is top seed to win the division one singles, in which he lost to Poppleton's Steve Ayres in last year's final.
