WORSHIPPERS from a York church are hoping divine intervention may help in the fight to save York City.
The Vicar of St Edward the Confessor Church, the Rev Martin Baldock, has erected a banner outside the building in Dringhouses which says: "Save Our City".
"Obviously for us as Christians the phrase has a double meaning," he said.
"But we have got a number of people in the congregation who are ardent City fans and it wouldn't surprise me if they were praying about the situation."
The church congregation includes Simon Mallett, who is a member of the Save City Committee, and former City centre forward Alf Patrick, who played for the team in the 1940s and 1950s.
Mr Patrick is famed for scoring five goals in one game - the only City player to do so.
