I congratulate City of York Council which, after resurfacing our street on November 10, has finally reinstated our residents' parking bays.
For almost three months, free 24-hour, on-street parking has been available only a minute from Bootham Bar.
A few yards of double yellow lines appeared after a couple of months, which slightly restricted things but, without the official markings, vehicles left on the unmarked street would be impervious to prosecution.
How much revenue did the council lose by being unable to issue penalty notices? Probably about the same it will lose when it refunds R14 permit holders for the 11 weeks residents' parking they paid for but didn't get.
Chris Wood,
Portland Street, York.
