A SOCCER star was today mourning his two-year-old son, who died just hours after his father's team celebrated an FA Cup victory over Manchester United.
Finlay Cooper, the son of Middlesbrough player Colin Cooper, died despite efforts to revive him by his family, ambulance staff and personnel at Harrogate District Hospital.
Finlay choked on the small toy - or toy part - on Saturday teatime.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "Despite efforts by the family and emergency staff, including ambulance and hospital personnel, they were unable to save him, and he was pronounced dead at 6.50pm by doctors at the hospital."
The spokesman said the boy's parents, Colin and Julie Cooper, who live at Goldsborough, near Knaresborough, were "understandably deeply distressed and upset".
The 34-year-old defender and his wife Julie have three older daughters.
