YORK RI saved their worst performance of the season for lowly West Leeds and went down 17-15 to their visitors.
At first sight it looked as if RI would win this game easily as they hammered away at the West Leeds line in the opening stages.
They even and opened the scoring with a John Armstrong penalty, but within ten minutes of the break they gifted West Leeds two tries.
First a missed tackle and then an interception let winger Dion Graves and lock forward Phil Thompson score.
A conversion by Breakwell gave West Leeds a 12-3 interval lead.
But the agony was not over for RI. Poor defending allowed Graves in for his second try to stretch West Leeds lead to a comfortable 17-3.
With ten minutes to go, RI eventually woke up from their slumbers and started to play the type of rugby their spectators have come used to seeing.
Two individual tries by the outstanding Tim Barley, one converted by Armstrong, brought RI within two points of West Leeds, but time ran out and the points were lost.
