YORK City received help from the very top in their bid to pull off an FA Cup shock against Fulham this afternoon, writes Dave Stanford.

The Evening Press understands Terry Dolan this week received a scouting dossier on the Cottagers from Premiership aces Manchester United.

The chief scout at Old Trafford is Martin Ferguson, brother of United boss, Sir Alex.

Martin Ferguson is a close friend of City director Barry Swallow, who was able to hand over United's reports on Premiership rivals Fulham to City chief Dolan to aid his tactical planning.

Meanwhile, media interest in this afternoon's game has been nothing short of phenomenal.

Thirty-four photographers, 43 press writers and a posse of radio commentators were scheduled to beam into Bootham Crescent for the fourth round encounter. The tie is due to feature on BBC Television's 'Match Of The Day' highlights' programme tonight (10.20pm).

'Five Live' radio's four-man team line-up at York, included summariser Peter Lorimer, the ex-Leeds United and Scotland ace who spent the 1979-80 season with City.
