OLD Buildings - New Buildings, Margaret Steiner's exhibition of architecture along the banks of the River Ouse, is newly on view in the appropriate riverside setting of City Screen, York.
City Screen is itself a new building in the shell of an old one, the Yorkshire Herald print works in Coney Street, and has views across the Ouse to buildings depicted by Steiner in acrylic on canvas.
Steiner, from Fulford, York, has a background in the building service industry and, with a BA in Fine Art from the University of East London, she is pursuing a lifelong interest by exploring the character of buildings by the Ouse.
Rosalyn Macdonald, City Screen's new exhibitions co-ordinator, says: "Margaret Steiner's series of paintings shows a wonderful juxtaposition of old and new, comparing facades in a manner not possible by using photography but in a style reminiscent of 18th century engravings."
Looking ahead, Rosalyn adds: "I hope to be able to exhibit a wide range of exciting and thought-provoking work by artists from the region."
Artists and photographers interested in exhibiting at City Screen can contact Rosalyn on 01904 541144 or e-mail her at rozmacd@hotmail.com
Old Buildings - New Buildings, On the Banks of the River Ouse, is on display on the upper floor of City Screen, York, until February 28, 11am to 9pm daily.
