THE National Railway Museum has appointed a new deputy head with a strong background in serving York's heritage.
Janice Murray will take up her post as deputy head of museum and head of public services on Monday. She began her museums career 20 years ago in the York City archives and as a volunteer at the Castle Museum.
She has worked in museums in both England and Scotland, and joins the NRM from the Macmanus Galleries, Dundee, where she was facility manager with additional responsibility for the art and history collections.
With a background in social and industrial history, Janice has extensive experience in developing exhibition and event programmes.
In her new post, Janice, who has two teenage sons, will be directly responsible for the NRM's marketing, visitor services, display development and education functions. She said: "I am thrilled to be coming back to York."
