PUPILS from a York school have taken part in an art project to highlight the problem of litter in the community.
Children from Year Ten at Joseph Rowntree School, New Earswick, were encouraged to think creatively about how recycling was one way of reducing the country's vast litter mountain.
Art teachers Tim Marvell and Lesley Hick have worked together with members of New Earswick Parish Council, New Earswick Community Association and the Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust to support the pupils in the project, which will count towards their Art and Design GNVQ.
The four 8ft-high works of art, made only from recycled litter, were unveiled at the school yesterday. They will go on public display outside New Earswick Folk Hall for the rest of the year.
