VILLAGERS, air force personnel and children all rose to the challenge when they were urged to hunt out their old foreign currency and "use it or lose it".
The people of Linton-on-Ouse collected hundreds of European coins, which will soon go out of circulation because of the new euro, to raise money for the BBC's Children In Need appeal and Unicef.
Collections were organised at the village primary school, the post office and the RAF base.
Many families in the village spend periods of the year abroad and the response to the appeal, dubbed Euro-aid Week, was very generous.
The money will now be sent off to be exchanged for pounds and sent off to the two charities.
