A £3.5 million retail scheme and visitor centre in the heart of the Heslington campus of the University of York is now completed.
The 35,000sq ft retail centre, developed by 21st Construction and project co-ordinators The Helmsley Group is part of an ongoing partnership with the University.
Its two storeys house a mini-market and seven shops plus a four-storey office block and visitor centre.
S Harrison Construction Ltd of Malton, which is also involved in three massive new developments at the nearby Science Park, took 12 months to complete the retail centre.
The Helmsley Group is the company behind other impressive office developments in York leased to companies, including CPP, Norwich Union and Cellhire.
John Reeves, its managing director, said: "This high quality retail centre will provide much-needed shopping facilities for staff and students and a major focal point for visitors and conference delegates."
