GRAEME Robertson's kind comments (Evening Press Jan 8) regarding my letters published in your newspaper stirred up happy memories of my early school days at St Joseph's Catholic School at Tadcaster. A time when slates and chalks were used for reading and writing lessons as well as for sums.
Could those slates and chalks supplied so lavishly by West Riding County Council during such cost-awareness days be the acknowledged predecessors of computers now deemed to be so necessary for a "good education" in these affluent times - even infants!
Well, the Prime Minister did promise, along with other exciting ideas, that every school child would have a computer - a laptop one.
Nevertheless I who am so proud of and grateful for an old-fashioned inexpensive education, wish to congratulate the letters editor on the good job he does with or without a computer.
