A FIGHT broke out in a York street after onlookers "barracked" a driver following an accident involving his car and a teenage boy.
The 14-year-old, from Somerset Road, was in collision with the car as he crossed the junction of Haleys Terrace with Huntington Road, in the city.
The accident happened at about 5.25pm yesterday. The teenager, who was taken to York District Hospital, is not thought to have been seriously injured.
But when police officers were called to the scene, they had to break up an argument which had broken out between bystanders and the driver of the car.
The driver was arrested and it is believed that officers made a number of other arrests on public order offences, although police declined to give any information.
A policeman at the scene told the Evening Press: "This accident occurred with a car and a pedestrian.
"Out of that incident, some bystanders decided to get involved and remonstrate with the occupants of the vehicle.
"There was a slight scuffle for which a few people have been arrested on public order offences."
A North Yorkshire police spokesman said: "This incident involved a 14-year-old and a blue Nissan Bluebird.
"The driver was arrested. A fight broke out and a van was requested for offenders who were arrested."
Anyone who witnessed the accident or has any information about it is asked contact police on 01904 631321.
