SEVERUS WMC served notice of their John Smith's York Sunday League division one championship intentions and at the same time dealt a severe blow to Volunteer's hopes with a thumping 8-1 win.

Volunteer were made to rue early missed chances when they fell behind midway through the first half when Jones netted at the second attempt. Depa then doubled the lead, latching on to a poor back pass.

Severus stamped their authority on the game in the second period with further goals from Moss (2), Jones with his second, Woodward (2) and Lake. Ward scored a consolation for Volunteers.

Nestl Rowntree still top the table after Jones and Wain gave them a 2-1 win at Pack of Cards, Neil Ducey netting for the home side.

New Earswick got off to a good start with goals from Whittington and Marshall giving them an early 2-0 lead at FC Magnet but goals either side of half time from first Chris Barker and then Paul Downes levelled matters.

A superb volley from the edge of the box by Whittington ensured a 3-2 win for New Earswick.

David Allison scored twice to give Marcia a two-goal half time lead but goals from Forrest and Spooner gave Hounds a share of the spoils in a 2-2 draw.

Adam Wash hit six in Wigginton's 9-1 win over Zafs, who have quit the league.

A single strike from Mark Willoughby midway through the second half was enough to see Jubilee beat Blacksmiths Arms to consolidate their position at the top of division two.

Andrew Triffitt scored twice as Derwent Arms won 4-0 against Fulford Bay. Barker, Hazell, Welburn and Ward were all on the mark as Derwent Utd beat Selby Olympia 4-2. Harkin and Nee scored for Selby.

Otis Bar continued their climb up division three with a 6-2 home win over St Clements WMC, while goals from Smith, Rank, James Willmoth and Small earned BH Colts a 4-2 win over Nestl Flag, who had to play with ten men after four of their team were involved in a car accident.

In division four, leaders Wigginton GH came away empty handed from a 3-1 defeat at Hemingbrough. Coxon scored their lone goal goal in response to the hosts' strikes from Stephenson, Ward and Williams (penalty).

Ian Hufton (2) and Darren Bardy gave Acomb Celtic a three-goal half time lead but a terrific fightback with goals from Thompson, Gale and Gomm saw Fulford Road WMC rescue a point.

Mason hit a hat-trick as Linton-on-Ouse got their first points of the season with a 6-4 win over one time leaders Raskelf.

A superb first half performance saw Greyhound lead Wanderers 6-0 with Paul Hegarty (4) and Seb Towse (2) the scorers. In a more even second period Fox pulled one back for the visitors before a deflection from a Mark Gregory shot completed a 7-1 win.

Northern Spirit gained their first win since September in a crucial relegation six-pointer against Sporting CS, Neil Yeowart scoring both in their 2-1 victory.

In the top of the table clash in division six, Chris Midgeley gave London York the lead. Paul Hughes equalised for Barlby, Ian Bruce restored the home side's advantage following up a Campsall drive, but Butler again levelled matters. Barlby were the stronger team in the second half but London York won with a last-minute winner from Brett Duncan.
