ALAN Smith was today appearing before the FA video appeals panel in York hoping to escape a four-game ban.
The FA agreed to refer Smith's appeal to the panel who will view the Leeds striker's sending-off in the FA Cup third round defeat at Cardiff. Referee Andy D'Urso ruled that Smith raised an elbow in attempting to ride a challenge by Andy Legg, who has offered to give evidence on Smith's behalf.
