New Earswick moved to the top of their Hebden Trophy group when they picked up nine points by beating pre-match leaders Featherstone 87-72. New Earswick won three rinks.
Playing at home, Ken Carter, Alf Lewis, David Sykes and Brian Hardcastle led 15-2 after eight ends. The visitors were 18-11 down with five ends to go, but the home team won four on the trot to lead 28-11 but they dropped a shot and lost 28-12.
Eric Ward, Barry Harrison, Bill Chittock and Joe Cooper won 19-14 after leading 14-13 after 18 ends. A single and a four on consecutive ends put the game beyond the visitors' reach.
At Featherstone, Ken Plowman, Bob Howland, Alistair Domville and Dennis Ellis scored a seven on the first end and led 13-1 five ends later. After 11 ends they led 16-5 but the home side then scored a single followed by a six and a three. New Earswick responded immediately with a five to lead 21-15.
Going into the last end, Plowman's rink were two ahead at 22-20 and they extended their lead with three shots to win the game 25-20.
Mal Beavers, Ron Wood, Graham Lockwood and Ken Robinson trailed 19-2 after nine ends, won the remaining ends 13-7, but went down 26-15.
York remain top of their group in the Yorkshire Under 18's League after winning 23-19 at Scarborough. York picked up four points to Scarborough's two.
Philip Scott, Josh Cahill and Adam Tattersall won 14-5. Liam Cahill, Philip Herridge, and Adam Liddell trailed 9-8 after ten ends and lost 14-9.
Iain Boyle and Shirley Stacey beat Steve Taylor and Carol McLean, from Scarborough, 31-19 in the area final of the National Mixed Pairs.
Iain came back down to earth when partnered with his father in the Father and Son area final when they were well beaten by Mal and Mark Harrison 26-9.
