Last night's match was just what York City needed. The players put on their best display of the season to pull off a cup shock and set up the tie of the next round.
They achieved this in front of the biggest crowd at Bootham Crescent for four years. Potential buyers of the club watching the game could not fail to have been impressed.
This was a financial victory too, netting City £50,000 and arranging a major pay day when Premiership Fulham come to town.
Most of all, however, the passion witnessed last night was a timely reminder of what would be lost if City fold.
