Leeds United and England midfielder David Batty has backed the fight to save York City.
On a visit to York Nestl workers the combative midfielder, told the Evening Press: "I'm a big supporter of the lower leagues and I think it would be a shame if York City went out of existence.
"It would be nice if some of the bigger clubs could help them out."
Batty, who has played at Bootham Crescent for Leeds reserves this season while recovering from injury, descended on the chocolate factory with the Premiership trophy on behalf of Yorkie, which is a sponsor of the top flight league.
He also believes that Leeds' title hopes are hanging by a thread.
"I think the Premiership title is beyond us this year - but you never know. We've got some big games coming up."
The first of those games is against title rivals Arsenal at Elland Road on Sunday.
More than 300 Nestle workers paid £1 to be photographed with the England star to raise money for Galtres School for children with special educational needs.
