Why is City of York Council even considering the development of the land to the north east of Clifford's Tower?

Granted, a car park is not the greatest of land uses, but at least it does not spoil the lovely open space between the Castle Museum, Clifford's Tower and the River Foss.

A site such as this deserves much better than another "in-fill" shopping centre!

The site of York Castle is of prime historical and archaeological importance and it could only be detrimental to the character of the city to have a "shoppergate" squeezed onto this site.

Tourists to York must have places to spend the revenue they bring to the city, but this should not be at the expense of York itself, and the future of York must be sympathetic to its past.
