CITY of York Under 14s girls team increased the pressure at the top of the Yorkshire Youth League with maximum points at the weekend.
They defeated Ben Rhydding 1-0 (scorer Stephanie Pearson) and leaders Driffield 1-0 (Amelia Smalley) to close the gap at the top to one point.
It was also a successful weekend for York's Under 12A boys team, who opened up with a 4-0 thumping over Colne Valley at Leeds with a hat-trick from Sam Arksey and a goal from Ross Stevenson.
A 0-0 draw with Adel was followed by a fine 1-0 win over Hull thanks to Arksey's solo goal.
An injury to Will Ellis left York a player short when they lost 1-0 to Boston Spa and completed their Yorkshire Youth League programme with a 3-2 win defeat against Thirsk despite goals from Ross Stevenson and Edward Adel. Thirsk's winner came in the last minute.
York's Under 12B boys team as they beat Thirsk 1-0 (Will Sorby), Brigg 2-1 (Ian Lynn and Sorby) and drew 0-0 with Hull YPI.
