SCHOOL governors are to be consulted about changes to the catchment areas of primary schools in Haxby and Wigginton.
The changes will come about as a result of the closure of Oaken Grove Primary School in Haxby this summer.
The council wants to know the views of governors as to what should happen to the catchment areas of the remaining three schools in the area - Headlands, Ralph Butterfield and Wigginton Primaries.
Councillors are expected to give the go-ahead next week to a consultation on three different options. The first would see all the existing catchments merged into one to create a "free market" in which all parents could express a preference for the three remaining schools. The second would see a merger of the catchment for Oaken Grove with that of nearby Ralph Butterfield to create a larger catchment for Ralph Butterfield.
The third option would involve drawing up three new catchment areas for the remaining schools.
Officers have drawn up three new areas on a map of Haxby and Wigginton which aim to give each school a balanced share.
The deadline for governors' responses would be on March 1 and the issue decided in April so the new areas could be introduced from September 2003.
