THE victim of a savage attack is still seriously ill in hospital, a month after being beaten in a York nightclub.

The 21-year-old Pocklington man is in a serious condition in York District Hospital after suffering head injuries in the attack at The Gallery nightclub, in Clifford Street, on December 15.

Police today released CCTV pictures of a man they believe could help with their investigation.

The man was captured by in-store cameras as he walked past the doors of Marks & Spencer, in Pavement.

Detective Sergeant Bryan Redshaw, leading the investigation, said: "We believe that this man may be able to help us with our inquiries, and we are keen for anybody who thinks they know who he is to get in touch."

The victim has not been named by police at his family's request.

He had been in York on a pre-Christmas night out with friends when he was involved in an argument with another man.

The attacker, who is thought to have been with the other man, repeatedly punched the victim in the face in an area of the club known as the Moet bar.

He was described as between 6ft 3ins and 6ft 6ins tall, of medium build and clean shaven, with short dark hair.

Anybody with information should call Det Sgt Redshaw on 01904 631321.
