THERE was a shock result in the premier division of Leeper Hare York and District League on Saturday when league champions Old Malton lost 2-0 at Dunnington.
Mike Walker celebrated his 19th birthday by opening the scoring for Dunnington in the first minute and 20 minutes later he made it 2-0.
Old Malton stepped up their game but they found Dunnington's 16-year-old goalkeeper John Pooley in outstanding form.
He stopped shot after shot, including a penalty save just before the break.
Midway through the second half Dunnington had a man sent off and in the later stages another received his marching orders along with an Old Malton player.
Pocklington took full advantage of Old Malton's defeat to move level on points with Old Malton at the top of the table with a workmanlike win at Nestl Rowntree.
Silly mistakes saw the home side give away two goals in the first half, Richard Millett and Kevin Goodwin scoring.
After the break Rowntree found their form but they came up against a resolute Pocklington defence.
At the bottom of the table, New Earswick gained three valuable points with a 2-1 win, at home to Crayke, to climb out of the bottom two. Jamie Hurst and James Vine were their marksmen.
Riccall went down heavily at Bishopthorpe. They competed well for the first 20 minutes but once the first Bishopthorpe goal went in their confidence deteriorated and they were four goals down by half-time.
The home side added two more after the break, with four-goal Woods their leading marksman and Kettlewell and O'Brian weighing in with one each. Stuart Winter managed to net a consolation goal for Riccall ten minutes from time.
Dringhouses won 2-0 at Kartiers after a goalless first half in which Kartiers spurned several scoring opportunities when their forwards had only the goalkeeper to beat. At the other end, Andy Barkway rattled Kartiers' cross bar.
As the second half progressed it seemed that whichever team scored first would go on to win the match and it was Dringhouses who seized the initiative when Gary Kitson netted from a corner with 25 minutes to go.
Ten minutes later another corner proved to be Kartiers undoing as Neil Rankiellor bagged the second goal for Dringhouses.
Lee Atkinson hit the woodwork as Dringhouses finished on a high but could not add to their goal tally.
In mid-table Huntington and Rufforth produced a dour scoreless draw. Rufforth came the nearest to snatching a win when Chris Carrick missing a 'sitter' late in the game.
