Northallerton forward power was the deciding factor in York RI's 26-3 Yorkshire League Two defeat on Saturday.
Playing down the slope and with a slight breeze, RI kept Northallerton penned in their own half and opened the scoring in the tenth minute with a John Armstrong penalty.
However, resolute Northallerton defending denied RI any other score.
Full back Ed Bulman tied the scores in the 20th minute with the first of his three first half penalties to give Northallerton a 9-3 half-time lead.
Although RI played well they were always under pressure from the Northallerton pack and any decent ball was hard to come by.
They fell further behind when, from a speculative kick ahead, Bulman beat Matthew Maddigan to the ball and touched down under the posts.
Even at 16-3 down RI still looked as if they could close the gap, but late tries by Bulman and Richardson saw Northallerton home 26-3.
