Pocklington frightened Yorkshire League One leaders Hull when they had the better of the game for an hour.
But they ran out of steam in the final quarter as Hull came from behind to win 37-19.
Despite Hull going ahead with a third-minute try, it did not look like a top- versus-bottom encounter as Pocklington soon found their feet to take the game to the home side.
They went close to scoring in the left corner, missed a penalty chance and then took control as Mark Taylor took over the kicking to land a penalty and fly-half Kevin Bowling scored a try under the posts for Taylor to convert.
Hull replied with a penalty, but full-back Taylor hit the target twice more before the interval and kicked his fourth penalty ten minutes into the second half to put Pocklington 19-8 ahead.
Former Welsh international Gary Pearce, one of six former Pocklington players in the Hull ranks, came off the bench to settle the home side down and inspire a comeback.
Hull got back on terms with two tries and they were given another despite the player clearly dropping the ball over the line.
Pocklington tired and in the 14 minutes of stoppage time Hull got two more scores.
