TOMORROW'S visitors to Huntington Stadium, Hull KR, had an eventful day last Sunday - with a York-based official at the hub of it all.
Controversy arose when the floodlights at New Craven Park gave up after 50 minutes of Rovers' game with Leigh, with the visitors leading 14-2. Leigh claimed victory and wanted the points but the RFL this week ruled that the match must be replayed.
And their decision was made only after reading a report, among others, by match commissioner Gerry Kershaw, the famous York-based video referee and head of Easingwold Upper School. Indeed, match referee Stuart Cummins had consulted with referee's advisor Kershaw before abandoning the match.
The RFL board has also expunged the original game from the records but, curiously, have allowed Leigh forward Chris Morley to count the abandoned match against his one-match ban.
ONE lucky person will drive off this summer in a brand new Vauxhall Corsa courtesy of the Wasps.
The club are putting a three-door Corsa up for raffle, with the draw to be made at half-time of the Wasps' game against Doncaster Dragons on June 9. In addition, there are two prizes of £100 and three of £50 to be won.
However, the club first need to get hold of raffle-ticket sellers to distribute the tickets, at £1 a go, not just on match-days but also to family, friends, workmates and the like.
"The more tickets we sell the more beneficial it will be to the club, plus more people will have a chance of winning a brand new car," said chief executive Ann Garvey.
Anyone interested in selling tickets should contact the club on 01904 634636.
ONLY a few seats are still available for the weekend trip, organised by the Wasps, to the Challenge Cup final in Edinburgh.
Tickets include a return coach to Edinburgh, two nights' bed and breakfast stay in a four-star hotel, a return coach to Murrayfield stadium from the hotel and admission to the match. The weekend in question is April 26 to 28.
The price is £230 per person and anybody wanting a ticket should contact the Wasps on 01904 634636.
STAYING with the Kellogg's Nutri-Grain Challenge Cup, the Wasps are running a bus to the third round match against Milford at Headingley, Leeds on Sunday, January 27. The cost is £6 return, admission not included, and the coach is expected to leave Huntington Stadium at noon. Contact the club (01904 634636) to book a place.
