York City chairman Douglas Craig today defended the board's decision and insisted no deal had yet been done for Bootham Crescent.
"No offers have been made, no details have been discussed and no discussions have taken place," he told the Evening Press.
When it was suggested Mr Craig and his fellow directors were "moral guardians" of the club and its assets, he replied: "Since when did the moral guardians of the club and the community be entitled to sit and take abuse, vilification and vandalism and continue to hold the role?"
Mr Craig said: "The big difference between York City at the end of the season if it is taken over by a Supporters' Trust and other clubs with Supporters' Trusts is they won't be collecting money to pay off a debt.
"They will be collecting money for the way they want to run the club and run it well."
Mr Craig added: "Money that is surplus will remain with the shareholders of Bootham Crescent Holdings."
