I DISAGREE with your editorial on the euro (January 3).
There is no difference between the euro and any of the other world currencies.
There would be just as much justification for traders in York to take yen or US dollars as the euro. In fact probably more, given the number of Japanese and American tourists we get here.
We were close neighbours of France and Belgium for many years when the franc was their unit of currency and that created no requirement to take these in our shops.
Why should the euro be a special case?
